Elva V. Gordon
1937 - 2010
Surrounded by her family, Elva Victoria (Murray) Gordon, 73, of Uhrichsville, O., passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at her home, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Dennison, O., on Jan. 23, 1937, to the late Owen H. and Olive B. (Leggett) Murray.
On Nov. 29, 1952, she married Harold R. Gordon and celebrated over 50 years of marriage until his passing on May 8, 2003. Together, she and Harold raised six children, all surviving her: Diana (Fred) Lindsay of Dennison, Deborah (Jose Jr.) Pena of Uhrichsville, Daniel (Georgia) Gordon of Dennison, Dennis (Lorraine) Gordon of Dennison, Donna (Douglas) Seevers of Uhrichsville and Doris (Paul) Arnold of Uhrichsville. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren with another great-grandchild expected in June of this year; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Elva was preceded in death by seven sisters, Ruth Orr, Mary Quillen, Anna Mae Halsey, June Berkshire, Audrey Doughty, Pauline Wagner and Marie McMasters; and three brothers, Thomas, Paul and Theodore Murray.
Elva was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a kind and caring person who did not know a stranger. She was a longtime employee of Roahrig's Nursing Home and McDonald's of Uhrichsville, and was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Uhrichsville.
She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, fishing and playing Bingo. However, Elva most enjoyed spending time with her beloved family in which she took much pride. She will be deeply missed by her family and all of those that she helped and cared for throughout her life. Her memory will live on through her family and through all of those that she influenced so positively. Reunited with her loving husband, Elva is now at rest with her Lord and Savior.
Services for Elva, officiated by Rev. Steven DeLong, will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 20, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison with an hour of visitation prior to the service. Interment will follow at Rush Church Cemetery near Uhrichsville.
Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday (today). Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W. 3rd St., Dover, O. 44622.
